Dear Vudes and Tus,
So basically, I was just chilling on the couch and my friend decided to put a land mine under my foot. I had no knowledge of it. I arose, stepped on it, and it went off. The entire room was destroyed and one of my friends died. Also, it was shabbos and rubbish flew and turned on lights and hit my maid's arm. What am I obligated in?
Sincerely,
Daddy
Hey there Daddy,
So from what I learned in the Jewish Law school of Bavel you would obligated in paying for the damages. You would not be obligated in the 4 categories. You would not get the Aveira for breaking Shabbos because it was not a Mileches Machsheves. When it comes to Galus you would be exempt. I wish I could help with the maid thing, but it's really a debate depending on whether it was intentional or not. Some say you always need to set him free (Rabanan), but some say you're only obligated to do so if it was intentional (Rashbag). Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Always here for you Daddy,
Vudes and Tus
